Maggie Atkinson Consulting Ltd

Change management in a challenging world

Maggie was an expert Witness whose report is quoted in the judgement given in the claimants' favour, by Mr Justice Collins on 22/06/2017 in the High Court. The case (No. CO/379/2017 Before MR JUSTICE COLLINS, The Queen on the application of DA and others as claimants and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions as Defendant) examined the evidenced ill effects on single parents of children under age 2, of the caps on housing and other benefits for working age adults in 2013 and November 2016. This was a significant case and the judgement robustly criticises a major social justice issue, and related social and economic policy.

Maggie was delighted to fulfil her primary responsibility - which is always to the court - and to add to the judge's deliberations on the matters concerned, in presenting her expert opinion. Feedback from the commissioning legal team (Doughty Street Chambers led the case with Howard Beskine Solicitors commissioning the report) was that her evidence was timely, expert, detailed and supported the court in its deliberations.

Maggie's work in legal processes such as this is produced in timely fashion in accordance with the brief or instructions given, and seeking to present an independent expert view to aid in the presentation of cases.

Maggie is also an experienced provider of focused expert and technical advice. She can help you to appoint senior staff members and advise on long and shortlisted candidates, including in reviewing applications and being a member of "sift-stage" interview processes. Her advice is clear, authoritative and constructive. Her most recent work in this area was in advising the appointing panel and Chief Minister as Jersey appointed its very first Children's Commissioner, a vital role in the island's determined work to change how it better works with, protects, promotes and champions the rights of, its children and young people. Jersey's Chief Minister and Commissioner for Public Appointments were delighted with this work and made a strong and promising appointment to this key post.

Maggie would be delighted to work with you on workforce and partnership issues and more. She can be contacted using the form below.
